Secretary/Treasurer: Dr. Isaiah R. Stephan
Members At Large:
Mr. Charles A. Stephan, Jr.
Dr. Jennifer Von Deesten
Ms. Maria L. Randrup
Ms. Meg Bode
Mr. William Stephan
We are grateful for the insight and understanding of the Board members. We look forward to their continued leadership as we implement the five-year strategic plan for the agency.
The Stephan Center was originally incorporated in 1973 under the name The Children's Preschool. The agency provided direct service as an Early Childhood Education facility for children 2 through 7 years old, offering an alternative approach to the traditional education of the public school system.
In 2004 the Corporate Board chose to redefine the mission of the agency and to change its name to The Stephan Center. The mission of the agency is to provide trainings, information, and resources to professionals supporting children, adults, and families and to laypersons in need. These services are provided through the following venues:
A web-based resource and referral information system (www.thestephancenter.org). This website is a constantly revolving resource in the area of bereavement ministry and social service support.
Professional Life Loss Workshop series: Twelve training workshops for professionals on aspects of life losses.
Consolation Ministry development programs for church and faith-based leaders and lay ministers covering the areas of Ministry to the Sick, Bereavement, and After Care.
"Fathers Speaking Out" video and discussion series for men in fathering roles.
We have developed training programs which have seen great success in school districts, faith communities, and local and city government. Like our training programs, this website is a constantly-evolving resource in the area of bereavement ministry and social services support.
Special Thanks
Thank You Colleen!! The Board would like to thank Colleen Stephan for her dedication to The Stephan Center. Colleen has served on the Board for the past four (4) years. She has provided us with great insight, compassion and realistic goals during her term. Colleen was a driving force in developing our Strategic Plan and our outreach efforts to Hospice programs. We will miss her at our Board meetings but know that she will continue to provide us with ideas and support as we move forward in serving others.
Strategic Initiatives
In 2008-09 the Board of Directors adopted a Five-Year Strategic Plan for 2009-14 consisting of four initiatives:
Program: Expand training to all ages: trainings to professionals, education to children and adults
Marketing: Develop a marketing plan that parallels program expansion, targets specific populations, and increases website usage
Financial: Increase revenue streams to sustain agency program growth and financial needs
Administration: Position the agency for national expansion within five years
Our professional trainings are available to agencies, school districts, and health care facilities to enhance staff development. Our church leader trainings support religious leaders in ministries to the sick, during bereavement, and in aftercare support services.
